Women Who Whiskey Go Back to the Barge!

Our Second Annual Women Who Whiskey: Nautical Edition in June was such a success that we rallied an even bigger group to head Back to the Barge at the end of August!

On a gorgeous late summer evening, just in time for Friday happy hour, we boarded the launch and headed back to our favorite floating establishment, the Honorable William Wall Barge.

We had a sizable group, including a number of our of preferred gentlemen guests, and a few new lady members!

It happened to be on the same day as a celebratory event for that summer's graduating class of junior sailing instructors--many of whom were foreign--so the barge was overrun with tan, sun-streaked, rowdy 20-year-old Irish lads. They were incredibly charming, and unfortunately, incredibly young.

But we managed to entertain ourselves, drinking, chatting, laughing, eating (this time we had the foresight to bring food!), and once again we watched a spectacular sunset descend over the Hudson River.

It was the perfect way to bid adieu to the hot days of summer, drink in hand.

When Kim wears heels it makes no difference that I am--she's still a foot taller!
Wine before whiskey!

Our gentlemen guests!

It was so windy and our hair was everywhere!

But we managed to snap at least one photo where the wind wasn't whipping my hair everywhere!

We're all looking forward immensely to next summer, when we'll get to go back to the barge once more.

Save the Date! Women Who Whiskey: Back to the Barge, Friday, August 23!

June's Women Who Whiskey: Nautical Edition was such a success that we decided to do it again!

Except this time, instead of making it an all-day weekend event, it'll be a weekday evening happy hour.

Perfect for a spectacular view of the sunset!

Where and When!

WHEN: Friday, August 23, 2013, anytime after 5:30 pm

WHERE: The Manhattan Yacht Club "Honorable William Wall" Barge Bar (launch to barge leaves from Marina in Battery Park (North Cove Marina, Dock F)
WHY: To enjoy some delicious bourbon, scotch, and rye with elegant and interesting whiskey-loving ladies and gentlemen, and to enjoy this splendid summer weather al fresco on the Hudson with a fantastic view of downtown New York.

Getting There!

On Tuesday through Friday, the first launch departs at 5:30 p.m. and then continues every 30 minutes. Advance tickets may be purchased for the 5:30, 6:00, 6:30 & 7:00 pm launches. Beginning with the 7:30 pm launch, tickets are sold on the launch on a space-available basis.

Here are walking instructions to the North Cove Marina from Chambers St.

You can also walk through the World Financial Center to the Marina.

Once You're There!

The barge has a fully stocked bar, but no kitchen, so you can bring your own food! (And, although it's definitely frowned upon, if not forbidden, the casual ambiance makes it extremely easy to sneak booze onto the boat too, so feel free to bring your whiskey flasks! I know I will!)

Feel free to bring friends and significant others, and bring your appetite for whiskey and your summer cheer!

Nautical clothing and accessories are encouraged!

Please email WomenWhoWhiskey@gmail.com to RSVP or with any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Women Who Whiskey: Nautical Edition

Women Who Whiskey reconvened for a long-awaited summer event:

Women Who Whiskey: Nautical Edition!

{via}

I'd been looking forward to planning a nautical even for a while, and I finally found a day that worked for everyone.

Unfortunately our first event got rained out, but we promptly rescheduled for the following week.

WWW: Nautical Edition was held on the Manhattan Yacht Club Floating Clubhouse: The Honorable William Wall Barge.

{via}

During the winter the barge is docked at the North Cove marina, but in the summer--between May and October--the barge is anchored in the middle of the Hudson River off the coast of Ellis Island.

The location is a short boat ride away (boats to the barge only leave every 30 minutes, free for Manhattan Yacht Club members and $10 round trip for everyone else--More detailed instructions can be found here) and offers a splendid view of both downtown Manhattan and the sunset over the New Jersey coast.

The bar is fully stocked--and the prices are quite reasonable, considering the clientele is captive--and you can even bring your own food for a maritime picnic.

In honor of the event, I donned my navy and white nautical dress, and learned about a sailor's (unfortunately non-whiskey, but still delicious) cocktail: Rum tonic and lime.

It sounds awful, but it's actually quite good--and I don't usually love rum--and it served its purpose on the high seas!

Tonic (quinine) for malaria, lime for scurvy, and rum because that's what's available when sailing around the New World (full of sugarcane plantations).

You learn something new every day.

We spent a wonderful evening drinking, chatting, and enjoying the beautiful sunset in true Women Who Whiskey spirit.
